We are happy and full of new inspiration after a weekend in Greifswald, Germany. Cold windy weather couldn’t stop the warm audience, and our hearts are bright and warm after this Saturday concert we did in St Spiritus. Good sound, good audience, and I’m so priviledged to do this music. Travel around, sing for people who seems to be so happy to listen. I’m very grateful I can do what I most of all want to do: sing and make music with my favourite guitarrist and saxophonist, Mats and Mikael. We had many great moments listenings to other bands too. Mademoiselle Karen, from Denmark, and Moses Hightower, from Iceland. Ary Morais band from Kap Verde. Great spirit in St Spiritus, all of them. I was also a bit surpriced to learn about this beautiful town Greifswald. Swedens! oldest university was founded here, even earlier than Uppsala University. And today there’s a vivid Nordic Institute in Greifswald wich is a good reason to have this festival Nordischer Klang, a fsetival they now have been running for 21 years. Today Sunday when we had some free time we could stroll and enjoy a pottery market, the boat cafés, and generally this beautiful town with old houses in beautiful colours.

Nordic Wedding Music, the band, is performing Saturday May 12 in Greifswald at the festival Nordischer Klang. We have our concert at 15 in the afternoon, in the venue St Spiritus. So, all music lovers, please come and listen to the wedding songs of the north, performed with improvisation, images of the nature and light of the north, where the sun never goes down in the bright summer nights.

Eva Rune vocals, Mikael Godée sopran saxophone and Mats Eriksson guitar, in a playful and skilled meeting in music.

Through hundreds and hundreds of years the people of the north has been dancing through the light night in the summer weddings. The music has been traded down through generations of men and women. Some of the lyrics shows that they really wished their sons and daughters to have a blessed and fruitful life together, telling the wisdoms of how they from now on will travel on the sea of life, sitting in the same boat. The power of forgiveness. The power of supporting oneanother when the storm is upon the sea. It’s a great metaphor, how we are now in the same boat. It goes for much more than just marriage.

We’ll give more than 100% for you in the performance and stir up some storms of the emotional sea, this is passionate music!

I stood up early this foggy morning in January, with no snow but beautiful frost roses and stars everywhere on the grass, trees, bushes and on buildings. The work with the songbook is intensifying now. It’s always on my mind, and it’s all about songs, writing down the music, listening to beautiful original recordings of the singers deep in tradition. It’s also about finding the right words, tracking down history behind the songs, being a detective for the almost unknown songs. Where did people sing it? Who carried this song to future generations? Our book will not be a history book, more a book to use and get inspired by. But I feel a deep thankfulness to all the singers who brought their richness in style, their hearts in the music, and I want to honour them by telling their names connected to their songs.

We are happily announcing that next year the songbook of wedding songs and love songs will be published by Bo Ejeby Förlag www.ejeby.se About 100 traditional songs from the nordic countries, mainly from Sweden, with passion and love, sometimes in the beginning of a romance, sometimes the perspective of a long relation and the beauty of getting old together. It’s so powerful, and the whole material just longs to get out there in the world instead of be hidden in the folk music archives.

After many years of travelling, collecting and performing the wedding songs, love songs…I’m so happy that this treasure of lyrics and rich melodies will be spread out to a wider audience.

The book will have an approximated price of 195 SEK. Graphic Design by Gabriella Persson who has put all her heart into this project together with me, we have been supporting eachother in the forming of each detail, each idea of how to package these old but timeless songs to a modern audience.

Please make already now your order of a copy, it will give us a clue of how big interest there is. Send your request to info@evarune.se

Nordic Wedding Music, quartet, has been to the Faroe Islands to do a tour of three concerts. What fantastic country this land is, theese islands. We had the most lovely days, magic moments, stunning nature and got to know more friends. What else could one ask for? Our concerts took place in Nordens Hus in Tórshavn, at Mykines island, and finally at the guest house of Gjógv. We want to go back one day. The people, culture and language is so amazing. I can’t get enough of the Faroe Islands it seems. More pics to come. Warmest wishes from Eva

I’m so happy that the book is progressing, even if it’s a long way to go still. Gabriella and I have been discussing a lot, with aims to find the best way to present these songs, the treasure that is part of our history. We definitely believe that these songs connected to old time marriage is not here today to reinact some kind of old fashioned way of looking at marriage and family. Instead we celebrate the wider perspective of love as a universal power that can appear in all kind of relations, as one of the most profound principals we know on earth. Love as the opposite of fear. Hopefully one can use such a songbook for daily inspiration in a number of different ways, to boost your own system with the poems and the music itself.

About 100 songs from the nordic countries are about to be the context of this songbook. Most of them are swedish, because I have the biggest insight in swedish songs. We are just about to start the creative process of photos for the book. I’m so much looking forward to meet the others who will be the photo session-team.

Warmest wishes from Eva

After last weeks intense rehersals it’s time to summon up what we have done. There are loads of recorded takings to go through. Mats and I will discuss tomorrow and find a time to work with the recordings. Even if the music is still in process it’s such a great thing to record the ideas. To be able to listen from another angle.

Things take time. Yes, that’s been the word of today. I’m happy we have been creating this music now for a rather long time. The good ideas never go away.

From the very first notes we played together I got lots of inspiration…If only one could stop the time so we could just keep on enjoying the sound we create together! At some point I realized this is actually the ”dream team” I once planned in my head: strings & voices! Just now it’s with different people from the original plan and the other ”voice” being the saxophone. How exciting!
